H.E Dr. Najibullah Mojadidi presented his credentials to H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, on December 20th, 2010 as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. He joined as Ambassador in June 2010.
Dr. Mojadidi was previously serving as the Special Advisor to the President on Health and Education (2005-2010) where he was also the focal point to the Polio Eradication Program. Simultaneously, he was also the Vice President for Afghanistan Independent Peace and Reconciliation Commission (2006-2010). During the governance of Dr. Mojadidi, over 10,000 insurgents joined the peace process through the Peace and Reconciliation Commission.
From 1993-2005, Dr. Mojadidi worked with United Nation’s World Health Organization in various positions and regions of the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office. He served as the Medical Officer, in charge of Emergency Preparedness and Humanitarian Action (EHA) in WHO, Pakistan and twice as Regional Advisor to WHO, Egypt. He was also appointed as WHO Representative to Somalia, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Prior to joining World Health Organization, Dr. Mojadidi also served as the Minister of Health to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in 1992-1993 and before that as Chairman to several Health Committees for Afghanistan.
Dr. Mojadidi received his Surgical Training in Memorial Medical Centre in Jacksonville, Florida where he also worked as House Physician/ Surgeon from 1976-85. He obtained his M.D from Kabul University Medical School in 1974 and moved to USA soon afterwards.
Dr. Mojadidi was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in Jan 1st, 1946. He is fluent in English, Arabic, Pashto and Persian. He belongs to one of the prominent and distinguished families of Afghanistan with a strong political background and has 5 children.
